Dear Diary,
We are now in the swing of things. Reception booked. Church booked. Band booked. Attendants picked. Now on to the other aspects of planning such as the invitations.
Different things are important to different people. Some people love flowers, others could care less. Some want to make sure the church is decorated to the nines, others could care less. One of my big things are invitations. Invitations always set the tone of an event. If I get a really cheap, home computer generated invite in the mail, (Yes, people can tell) I already get an idea of what the actual event is going to be like. Don't get me wrong, I'm all for the DIY projects but if you are going to DIY it better not look like one. Especially wedding invitations.
J's thought about them (same as many others) that people look at them twice; once to see when and where the event is when they first receive it in the mail and the second time the day before or day of to see where it is and how to get there. Then they throw them out. I totally understand that. But I do keep the ones I really like as they inspire me for future events I may have.
In the age of Internet everything there were plenty of sites to browse and thousands of designs to look through. We choose black lace and champagne as our colors, which give our wedding a touch of vintage class. So I wanted the invitations to say the same thing. I want people to open them and know our wedding isn't taking place in the backyard (which is fine for some) just not what we want for our special day. I want people to say, " This is going to be a beautiful wedding."
I decided to look on various websites i found linking from every bride's favorite sites, http://www.theknot.com/ and http://www.weddingchannel.com/ to see what special offers were out there. I found a few I liked but I am a very visual person and wanted to see the actual invites in person and for the most part these sites offer free or very low cost samples. I also went to a local invitation place to see what they offered. I found a beautiful and different invitation that I loved but I did not love the price. When I brought home an $1,800 quote to J he fell off the sofa! Literally, fell off the sofa and next came the look along with his trademark response," Listen Ivanka!" He likes to call me Ivanka Trump because I always happen to pick the most expensive things. hahaha It's kind of our running joke now. However, if he says, " I J take you Ivanka," at the alter then I'll worry. haha
I knew that would never happen and I decided to go with an invitation from http://www.theamericanwedding.com/ . It's a great site with very reasonable prices and higher quality invitations. They were having a great special too and included extras and free shipping. The only down side was I had to assemble them myself. You could pay extra for assembly but i figured i was going to add my own little personal touch to them anyway so why not just do it all. It was also a good excuse to get the girls and my mom involved. I would love to post a pic of the invite but they haven't gone out yet and don't want to ruin the effect. I promise to post it once they go out in the next two weeks:)
Now that the invitations have been ordered, delivered and in the process of being assembled my next step was to take the outer envelopes to the calligrapher to be addressed. Sounds pretty simple right?
We will see.
My Dearest Diary,
The Blushing Bride To Be
